About The PIO Academy
Our Philosophy
At The PIO Academy, we believe that everyone has the potential to learn and grow, regardless of their background or experience. We are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive environment where all students can thrive and achieve their goals.
Our primary audience includes members of the Fire, EMS and Emergency Management agencies that want to establish and reinforce their role as Public Information Officers (PIO).
Training includes best practices with social media, crisis communications, strategic communications, on camera and virtual interview techniques, reputation management, breaking news, dealing with misinformation and disinformation and more. Training can be flexible and adjusted to your needs.
Training is in person and best delivered in groups at your training facility.
Our Philosophy
PIO Academy courses include:
PIO III - two-day course highlighting basic activities for a new to semi-experienced fire, EMS and emergency management PIO. Modules include social media best practices, news releases, basic on camera skills, managing a fire or EMS scene, handling on scene media, developing a message map and talking points and more.
PIO II - one day course providing essential ekements for a PIO including crisis communications, strategic messaging, on camera interview techniques.
PIO I - one day course designed for the more experienced PIO and chief officers with an expanded overview of wellness, managing crisis communications, First Amendment Auditors, Artificial Intelligence and more.
Classes can be designed for your local needs.
